SCA’s forest operations are mainly concentrated in the southern part of Norrland. They own 2.6 million hectares of woodland, but also buy timber from private forest owners and offers them forestry services. SCA is divided into five business areas – forest, wood, pulp, containerboard, renewable energy and purchasing and logistics as supportive unit. On R & D Center, research and development is also conducted in close cooperation with the Mittuniversitetet. Important infrastructure for SCA is located in or near Kramfors, Piteå, Umeå, Sundsvall and Timrå. Sawmills
Perhaps the largest sawmill in Sweden – Bollsta sawmill – is located in Bollstabruk (Bruksvägen 15) outside Kramfors in Västernorrland. Here are currently 179 employees. According to SCA’s website, Bollsta sawmill’s new adjustment works will be completed in the autumn of 2022. In the long term, the adjustment will mean that Bollsta can double its production to an annual capacity of 750,000 m3.
Other major sawmills with an annual production that is greater than 400,000 m3 of sawn goods are located in Mundsund (Måvägen 20, Piteå) and Tunadal (Johannedalsvägen 97, Sundsvall). These together are the three largest sawmills in northern Sweden.
Nursery-gardens (NorrPlant)
In the nurseries of SCA, it is grown over 100 million forest plants every year. Wifstamon’s nursery (Kabelvägen 8, Timrå) and the Bogrundets nursery (Golfbanevägen 4, Fagervik) are quite close to each other in the areas around Timrå north of Sundsvall. More than every other plant in Norrland comes from here. This applies mainly to spruce, pine and contortatall.
Wood terminals

Det är på de långa transportsträckorna som vi använder oss av tåg. Virket tranporteras från skogen med timmerbil till närmaste virkesterminal där det lastas om till tåg. Flera av våra industerier kan ta in virke med tåg direkt. För de industrier som inte kan ta emot virkeståg använder vi tågen till att transportera virket till närmaste lossningsterminal och därifrån körs virket vidare med timmerbil.”
“SCA has eleven wood terminals in northern Sweden: Töva, Torsboda, Bensjö, Easternavall, Haxäng, Gimås, Krokom, Storuman, Hoting, Lycksele and Murjek. It is on the long transport paths that we use trains. The timber is transportered from the forest with timber trucks to the nearest timber terminal where it is loaded on to a train. Many of our factories are able to bring in timber with train directly. For the factories which cannot receive timber trains, we use the trains to transport the wood to the nearest unloading terminal and from there, the timber is running with timber trucks. “

Pulp mills
Östrands pulp mill factory: Järnvägsgatan 2, Timrå
Production of bleached sulphate pulp and chemical thermomechanical pulp, CTMP. From the process, “green” electricity, district heating, tall oil and turpentine are also produced. 385 employees.
Ortviken’s industrial area
Calculated that by 2023 all production will be moved from Östrand’s to here. This will cause production to increase from 90,000 tonnes to 300,000 tonnes.
